About MOPS/MomsNext

MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers) was founded in 1973 by eight women in Wheat Ridge, Colorado, and has since grown into an international Christian ministry with over 3900 groups meeting in the United States, and in 35 countries around the world. MOPS was founded at Westminster Reformed Presbyterian Church in 1998 and began ministering to the mothers of Suffolk, many of whom came to Westminster for MOPS and found faith and a church home as well.

As mothers enter the school years, new challenges and issues arise, but the need for community and hope remains. Therefore, in 2009 MOPS International created MomsNext, a ministry for mothers of school-age children. This year, Westminster MOPS embraces this new challenge, and thus becomes Westminster MOPS/MomsNext!

So whether you are a new mom or a mom of a school-age child, you are welcome at Westminster MOPS/MomsNext! Here you will experience authentic community, mothering support, personal growth, and spiritual hope, all to help you be the best mom possible!

Renewal

Mops_Renewal The word means different things for different people, and has different meanings for different seasons of our lives. What is renewal to you?

  • A break from responsibility?
  • A feeling of being supported and encouraged?
  • A new attitude?
  • A feeling of empowerment and ability?
  • A new purpose to your life?

As mothers, mired in the daily routines of our lives, the very idea of renewal can seem absurd. But the bible gives us a new perspective. In Revelation 21:5, we learn that God renews ALL things.  Even moms! To some, this is a “revelation” indeed!

At Westminster MOPS/MomsNext, we are here to help you find renewal in  all things. We will give you a break from your kids, support and encourage you, help you find a new attitude, teach you a new skill, help you to seek God’s purpose in your life, and experience the ultimate renewal of drawing closer to Christ.

Our Meetings

Westminster MOPS/MomsNext meets on the first Wednesday of the month during the school year, from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m.  At our meetings you will enjoy food, fellowship, games, speakers, crafts, small group discussions, and quality childcare. Here is a sampling of the topics we will explore this year in our quest for RENEWAL:

  • “Making NEW Friends” mixers and icebreakers
  • “Adding NEW Life to Your Marriage” DVD
  • Guest speaker on “NEWtrition”
  • “Learn a NEW Craft” day
  • “ReNEWing our Bodies” fitness demonstration

Mops_book Optional Book Study

For those moms wanting more spiritual renewal from their MOPS/MomsNext experience, we will offer an optional book study on the third Wednesday of the month from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. We will be reading and discussing When a Woman Discovers her Dream: Finding God’s Purpose for Your Life, by Cindy McMenamin. In this book, we’ll learn how to discover and live out the dreams that God places on our hearts, and that it’s never too late to embrace a NEW vision for our lives!

Our MOPPETS

While you enjoy yourself in our MOPS/MomsNext meeting, your children are cared for by dedicated and qualified Westminster volunteers. The MOPPETS ministry is not just two hours of babysitting.  Children are divided into age-appropriate groups and enjoy stories, crafts, games, singing, and other activities. If you are ever needed for any reason, a MOPPETS worker will notify you.

To Help

If you or someone you know would like to support our ministry, there are many ways to help!

Leadership: Various leadership positions are available to passionate and committed Westminster MOPS/MomsNext members who wish to contribute to the development of our ministry. Let us help you identify your spiritual gifts and put them to work! Our leadership training will help equip you for ministry in ways far beyond Westminster MOPS/MomsNext!

Childcare: We are currently recruiting both MOPPETS childcare workers (for preschool children) and supervisors for MomsNext homeschoolers (school-age children). We provide free training, and each additional childcare worker allows up to six more moms to attend our meetings!

Fundraising: We are pleased to introduce our fall fundraising partner, Mabel's Labels!  Mabel's Labels are designed by moms who were frustrated by the amount of stuff that left their houses, never to return. Mabel's sticky labels and clothing labels are dishwasher, microwave and laundry safe, and can be customized with name, color, and icon for each of your children. They also offer child safety products and household labels. You’ll be amazed at what you can label!

Visit the Westminster Mabel's Labels website and check out their great products! A percentage of each sale goes towards supporting Westminster MOPS/MomsNext activities and MOPPETS expenses.

Can’t Come to Our Meetings?

Interested in what Westminster MOPS/MomsNext has to offer, but Wednesdays are bad for you?  Or you can’t make a daytime meeting?  There are still ways for MOPS to be a part of your life and a blessing to you!

Option 1: Become an Adjunct member: We are developing a pilot program within Westminster MOPS/MomsNext that we are calling "Adjuncts".  Adjunct moms are women who, due to the circumstances of their life, cannot attend MOPS/MomsNext meetings at Westminster, but are interested in plugging into the community through happenings/events and resources outside of meetings.  Through the "Adjuncts" group, we hope to bring some of the best parts of MOPS/MomsNext to you, right where you are.  With your Westminster MOPS/MomsNext Adjunct membership, you will receive:

  • Announcements and invitations to MOPS/MomsNext events such as playdates, socials, etc.
  • Access to our members-only group on Facebook, where we will make connections, have discussions, share photos, etc.
  • Access to videos, when available, of speaker presentations from our meetings.
  • Guest privileges at any of our meetings, up to two a year, should your schedule allow it.
  • Ministry and prayer from the steering team and moms at Westminster MOPS/MomsNext.
  • Membership to MOPS International, which includes a one-year subscription to MomSense magazine, weekly Mom-E-Mail devotionals, and a membership kit of goodies. MomsNext members additionally receive a monthly MomsNext eZine.

The cost of Westminster MOPS/MomsNext Adjunct membership is only $23.95 per year, which is simply the cost of your MOPS International membership.  The other benefits of membership are free of charge.  Financial scholarships are available.

If this Adjunct program is something that interests you, please contact us with your mailing address and we will send you a registration form.  We look forward to connecting with you!

Option 2: Search for another MOPS or MomsNext group:  Visit www.mops.org and search for other groups in your area.  You will find that some groups meet on different days, and some even meet in the evenings.  We are familiar with several other local groups and would be happy to make an introduction for you!
